Rocktoberfest is an event the Student Government Association holds every year. Seeing students lined up outside the tent before the event started gave SGA false hope that they would have a great turnout.
Last year students came to the event, received a free Rocktoberfest shirt, and left. This year, shirts were not available until after the event started. SGA hoped students would stay and enjoy the band and events they worked so hard to put together.
Anthony Demario, sophomore communications major, attended Rocktoberfest last year. “Despite how many students left once they got their shirt, it still was a better turn out than last year,” he said.
The event was crowded at first, but once students received their shirts, they left.
“I wish more people would’ve stayed and enjoyed the band,” said Jackie Guglietta, senior vice president of programming. “Everyone that stayed really enjoyed themselves.”
The band, Drama Queen, was a cover band, playing all different kinds of rock music including hits from No Doubt, Paramore, Veronicas, Kelly Clarkson, and The Cranberries.
Drama Queen had great enthusiasm and got the crowd dancing and singing along. The musicians in the band were phenomenal, the lead singer, Shannon, had an outstanding voice and their lighting and sound crew created a real rock n roll atmosphere!
“The band is very impressive. I’m having a great time!” said Demario during the event.
Monique Keith, freshman business major, said, “We just got here but the band is really awesome!”
Drama Queen put on quite a show. Shannon rocked out, with arms swaying side to side, and jumped down from the stage to dance with students. Meanwhile, the students were jumping on stage and rocking out with the band. Shannon told the audience at the end of the night
Medaille was the best audience they ever had.
Rocktoberfest was also an event clubs could get involved with as well.
Some Medaille clubs had tables set up and were either selling items or giving away prizes. The criminal justice club sold pizza and pop, the fencing club sold brownies, the psychology club sold candy and WMCB, the college radio station, was giving away prizes.
“I would like more clubs to be involved next year,” said Anthony Passerino, junior and upper-class senator. “It gives clubs an opportunity to sell t-shirts, food, give away prizes and get their club out there to the students.”
Overall Rocktoberfest was a successful event. SGA did everything they could to please students and give them a concert in their own back yard.
