The concert Medaille students have all been waiting for is no longer just a dream.

Student activities board proposed a plan for an additional $14,000 from student government for the ability to bring a well-known band to Medaille for the end of the year concert.

“People want big bands here,” says Jackie Guglietta senior, president of SAB, vice president of programming, and cartoonist for the Perspective.

Nick Calandra, President of SGA, says SAB did budget correctly for a well-known band for the end of the year concert by taking events like the traditional holiday party held in December out of the budget.

However, despite SAB’s planning, there was a popular demand from students to keep the holiday party this past winter. Therefore SAB needed to request more funding in order to pull off a big party at the end of the year.

Calandra says SAB receives $25,000 to budget every year. This money comes from a $180 student activity fee included in every student’s tuition at the main campus.

Where did this additional money from come?

Christopher Ripley, upper-class senator of SGA, says the $14,000 came from their “slush fund”, a fund holding unused money from the previous semester.

“We are taking the proper steps to make sure we have an unforgettable spring concert, says Guglietta, “I feel this will bring a sense of community and give our school some street cred.”

Ten SGA members voted in favor of the request, there were eight conflicts of interests, two members were absent, and the president does not vote unless there is a tie.

Senior veterinary technology major Cathryn Keller thinks the concert is a good idea. “I hope that they will pick a good band,” said Keller. “It will be nice to have a big event like this at Medaille.”
