“Balance” is always declining with Chartwells limited system of pricing

How awesome is it to go to a different college and watch your friends swipe their student cards once, allowing them to access whatever they want?

Here at Medaille, it’s a little different, as you all may know. Each item purchased at the Sullivan center has a price and each meal has a certain price limit.

You could follow the signs to what Chartwells says is a meal, but maybe you don’t like every option in that certain meal plan. Maybe you prefer a sandwich with a side not required. Adding on a drink would probably make you go over that price limit too.

The consequence of going over the price limit is that the declining balance is used to make up the difference, and I know no one wants that. People generally want to save that money to get ice cream, Starbuck’s frappuccinos and other various junk food goodies.

And what if you don’t use a meal plan, or you don’t use all the money given for that meal plan? The answer is: nothing. I don’t feel that it’s fair that nothing happens.

We don’t have guest passes, so if you do have a guest it’s, “See ya later DB.” Likewise, with the meal plans you don‘t get extra for friends and family, which would be useful, especially if you are working or participating on a sports team. I think that if you don’t spend all the money in your meal plan, it should go towards your declining balance.

You can use your meal plan at the snack shack at the bottom of the South Building. However, you only get the luxury until 8 p.m. In my opinion you should be able to use your meal plan until it closes. What is the difference of a few more hours, since it will be open anyway.

“If you don‘t use it, you lose it,” and I feel the students should not have to lose the meal plan funds they don’t spend. If they don‘t use the entire meal plan, they should be rewarded with some DB! No one wants to lose money and food, which are two things very dear to any college student, so how about giving us a few more options?
