Utilizing NFTA Metro saves both money and the environment

The NFTA Metro Bus and Rail system has an agreement in which Medaille students can ride the rail and buses for free. In these tough economic times, students are looking for ways to save money. Why not use the NFTA Metro pass that we have?

I know many students like to go out on Thursday and Friday nights. Someone is usually driving a car. I wonder, why drive a car, waste money and pollute the air when you could take the rail or buses?

If you take the rail or bus, you would be helping the environment. The rail uses electricity, so it doesn’t release any gases that can hurt the environment. The Metro buses are becoming environmentally friendly with their hybrid buses. These buses have a combination of diesel engines and electric motors. These innovations allow the buses to use less fuel, and put out less pollutants.

NFTA Metro’s website states that their hybrid buses emit 90% less particulates, hydrocarbons, and carbon monoxide, and 50% less nitrogen oxides. All of these are pollutants.

If you take the rail or bus, you would save some cash. Medaille students don’t have to pay anything to ride the rail or bus.

Looking at the current gas price, the average for New York it is around $2.70 per gallon. Using the bus or rail system completely eliminates the gas price issue. You would never have to worry about whether or not you can afford gas because NFTA doesn’t even use gas with the rail. The bus uses gas, but Medaille students don’t pay a cent to ride it.

I have experienced how easy it is to get from point A to point B using my Metro pass. I was so glad when I found out that Medaille students could ride the buses and rail for free. I would recommend that all Medaille students take advantage of your “free ride.”
