The Medaille Men’s basketball team has been on a tear this season with a record of 18-1 overall and a 13-1 in conference play. Currently, they are also ranked 25th in the country for division III men’s basketball.
The most impressive victory this year had to come against John Carrol University as the Mavs were able to knock off the ninth ranked team in the country in late December to avenge there loss in last year’s NCAA tournament.
A lot of this year’s team success has to be the veteran leadership as the Mavs start four seniors and one junior.
Senior Keith Hack leads the team in scoring averaging with 16.3 points per game and also leads the team in rebounding averaging with 6.2 rebounds per game. Senior Chris Muscato leads the team in assists with 3.9 assists per game.
This year’s Mavs have accomplished something no other Medaille Men’s basketball team has ever done, earning a top 25 ranking. The highest point the Mavs reached was 19th but after suffering a loss to Pitt-Bradford on January 13th they have been hanging on with five straight wins keeping them ranked within the top 25.
The Mavs have six games left in the season including three at home, and three on the road before it’s time for the AMCC playoffs which begin February 23.
As of now, Medaille is at the top of the standings within the AMCC. The Mavs have two more significant games this season. Their first test will come against Penn St. Behrend on February 3rd, and then they take on Pitt Bradford two weeks later looking to avenge this season’s only loss.
The Mavs will look to win the AMCC and advance to the NCAA tournament for the second straight year. This year so far has been a great year of basketball and if they continue at there current pace the Mavs could do some damage come tournament time.
